Global Engagement Endowment - $4-5 million

“My class curriculum has broadened my horizons and transformed me into a more culturally diverse individual, and the wonderful student organizations have given me key tools needed for the real world.”
Lauren Tate,
    junior nursing major

This year marked the 16th January that LaGrange College has sent large groups of students around the world to learn and serve through study-away experiences. In 2016, eight groups of students traveled abroad to countries like the Philippines, Ecuador and Italy. For many, the journey was made possible through the LaGrange Study Away travel voucher, which provides first-year students $2,500 for an off-campus travel experience during their junior or senior year.

Jan Term travel is only part of the college’s Global Engagement Initiative, which was developed through our strategic and Quality Enhancement plans. It aims to enlarge students’ “local world” perspective to a global one and consists of both “study away” and “study here” components. The latter incorporates additions reaching from the core curriculum to all academic majors and extending to co-curricular activities.

Endowing these global engagement initiatives will ensure that future LaGrange students are prepared for our increasingly interconnected world. Current efforts have boosted study-away participation to more than 75 percent; our goal is for all students to benefit from such an experience.
