'Come Together' for Homecoming 2014
This year's Homecoming festivities will offer Panther friends, family and alumni
a chance to come together to celebrate everything that is great about LaGrange
College, according to Martha Pirkle, Director of Alumni and Community Relations.
"The 2014 theme is 'Come Together,' and there will be so many wonderful opportunities
for everyone to do just that during the weekend," she said.
The Suber Archives on the first floor of Lewis Library will host an open house
from 9 a.m. until noon Friday. Guests may view memorabilia from the college's history
and help identify classmates in old photos.
The annual Shackelford Alumni Achievement Award Forum will be at 11:15 a.m. in
the Corn Auditorium at Lewis Library. This year's honorees are Joseph Louis Bell
'99, Diane Kilpatrick Brunet-Garcia '80, Bobbie Harris Burkes '71 and Porter Pierpont
Morgan '62. They will be joined by Ternisha Miles Jones '03, the inaugural winner
of the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award.
"These exceptional alums will talk about their time at the college and share how
this institution shaped their lives," Pirkle said. "They also will be available
to talk with our students in mentoring sessions and during an open reception at
3 p.m. in the Edmondson Parlor."
The 31st annual Tom Duckett Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Panther Club, will
tee off at 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Highland Country Club. Only three team slots

The fun will kick up a notch as Panther Palooza IV gets underway at 6 p.m. on
the square downtown. The event is co-sponsored by the Alumni Association and Downtown
"We have so many wonderful things planned," Pirkle said. "Pouncer will be visiting
between 6:45 and 7:15 p.m. and will be available for pictures with fans. Alumni
registration will begin at 6 p.m. There also will be an inflatable slide for the
children to enjoy."
"The Return," considered one of the country's best Beatles tribute bands, will
take the stage at 7:30 p.m. for a free concert on the square.
Saturday's festivities start bright and early with the annual 5K Run and 1-Mile
Walk at 8 a.m. in front of the Callaway Education Building. The race is sponsored
by the Exercise Science majors.
"This year's event will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of West Georgia," said
Dr. Tim McInnis, Assistant Professor of Exercise Science. "We will have several
kids from the local club helping us with the race. Those interested can register
online or at 7 a.m. Saturday at the race location."
The annual Alumni Recognition Breakfast will be at 8:30 a.m. in Dickson Assembly
Room. Honorary alumni award winners include Amos Theodore Beason and Ann Hutchinson
Beason, Dr. Jerry Caswell, Dr. Sue M. Duttera and Dr. Frederick V. Mills Sr. Sports
Hall of Fame inductees are Jessica Bold Brown '04 and Howard Titus Martin '02,
Returning this year is the men's alumni basketball game and tailgate, sponsored
by the Panther Club. Tipoff is at 9:45 a.m. in Mariotti Gym, followed by a tailgate
Reunion and tailgate activities will fill the area around Callaway Auditorium,
beginning at 9 a.m., and Lamar Dodd Art Center will hold an open house from 10:30
a.m. until noon.
Kickoff for the Homecoming game against Methodist University is 1 p.m. in Callaway
Stadium. Sports Hall of Fame honorees will participate in the ceremonial coin toss
before the game, and the 2014 Homecoming King and Queen and Spirit Contest winners
will be announced at halftime.
The annual Alumni and LaGrange College Community Memorial Service will be at 11
a.m. Sunday in the Chapel, followed by a Dutch-treat Sunday brunch buffet in Margaret
A. Pitts Dining Hall.
Pirkle said there will be something for everyone during the weekend.
