Why accountancy?
Why accountancy? Accountancy is the language of business. As an accountant, you will measure and record financial information. You will also analyze, think critically and make intelligent business decisions that benefit and protect management and investors. CEOs often have accounting backgrounds, so this is a career ladder that can reach the very top.

Why LaGrange?
It offers the first accounting program in the world to be accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs.

What makes the LaGrange College Accountancy program special is its focus on project-based learning. During your final three semesters, you will simulate the activities of a public accountant by leading the audit of an entire company from start to finish.

The Accountancy program at LaGrange goes beyond the classroom and textbooks. In addition to the ability to work with computers, spreadsheets and information systems, students also develop:

  • Knowledge in marketing and management
  • Superior communication abilities
  • Essential people skills
  • Ethical decision making

Meet Accountancy majors

Trae Long Trae Long
Trae Long likes rules and order - a trait that serves him well as an accountancy major and president of the college’s Honor Council.

“I’ve always liked math,” the senior from LaGrange says with a smile. “It was my favorite subject, so accounting is a simple step from that.”

Felipe Vega Felipe Vega
Felipe is pursuing a double major in accounting and business, and a minor in religion. His time on the Hill has taught him two things he didn’t know about himself: He is a good student and a leader.

“I always thought I’d be successful, but I didn’t know I’d do as well academically. And I never thought of myself as a leader … but I’ve definitely learned here that I have certain leadership skills – that I can do what is right but also get others to do what is right. I’ve also grown in my faith and I’ve become a much stronger Christian since I’ve been here.”

Attending a college that is affiliated with the United Methodist Church teaches students how to deal with things on more than one level, he says.
